Contrary motion (hands moving in opposite directions) builds independence early without the rhythmic complexity of full counterpoint.

Play 6 contrary-motion patterns evenly at two tempos without finger-number slips.

How to practice this on your piano today

  1. 1. Right hand on C-D-E-F-G (thumb on C). Left hand on C-B-A-G-F one octave lower (thumb on C, going down).
  2. 2. Play 1-1, 2-2, 3-3, 4-4, 5-5 with both hands together.
  3. 3. The hands move in opposite directions like a mirror.
  4. 4. Aim for synchronized attacks at varying tempos.
  5. 5. Try with detached and legato touches.
