Weeks 5-6: reading and touch ยท reading

Treble staff landmarks

Find treble G, middle C, and nearby notes without counting every line.

Why this matters

Treble G (line 2) and middle C (ledger below) are reference points; once they're memorized everything else reads as 'two steps up from G' or 'one ledger below middle C'.

What you should be able to do

Name and play 18 of 20 treble landmark prompts within 3 seconds.

Estimated focus time: 1.5h

How to practice this on your piano today

  1. 1. On a piece of paper, draw a treble clef with 5 lines.
  2. 2. Mark line 2 (from bottom) as G, line 3 as B, top line as F.
  3. 3. Recite 'Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge' for the lines and 'F-A-C-E' for the spaces.
  4. 4. With a method book or printable, name 20 notes in 30 seconds.
  5. 5. Track your time over a week and see it drop.
